Message from the Principal "Making a Difference is alive and well at OSCVI"
"April 11th is the OSSLT at OSCVI." That is a lot of acronym, but it means that the literacy test will be written at OSCVI on Thursday, April 11 in the a.m. Our grade 9s will write a "shadow test" to prepare for next year.
The winter is slowly going to give way to Spring. We are very excited about the results from our "Inside Ride" for pediatric cancer at OSCVI. Working with KDSS, West Hill and our local community partners from police, fire, Georgian College, RBC and many other generous groups, we raised $35,000 to support local families. You will be hearing lots in the news about this great community/school event. Childcan focuses on helping our local families and their children when they are battling against a disease that affects us all. . The passing of former student Brendan Rourke was difficult for everyone. The Inside Ride was a great opportunity for our students and community to give back to the Childcan Charity that Brendan believed in. Brendan was a valued member of our community. His greater Falcon family is sad, but at the same time celebrates all the characteristics that made him such a great student, community member and "great guy to be around." You can still go to
www.oscvi.theinsideride.com or you can search "Inside Ride OSCVI" on Facebook to support (and see great photos). Where do the funds go? Just go to www.childcan.com and check out this very good charity.
Also, Hillcrest's outdoor classroom design has made it to the top ten in Canada in the Majesta Trees of Knowledge competition! To win the grand prize, they need your help---the winner of the $20 000 outdoor classroom is determined by popular vote. Please vote daily for Hillcrest at www.majesta.com. The contest begins today and closes April 26th, and anyone over the age of six can vote.
In the coming weeks we will also help students succeed in class and learn lessons for life. Our staff is working hard and are very proud of our Falcons.
We really feel that we are meeting the Board mission of:
"Preparing Our Students Today for the World of Tomorrow"
